The Matting Debate: Renting vs. Buying
The road most traveled is also the most difficult to keep clean. The entryway is a high-traffic area, and because of its heavy foot traffic it is prone to spills, stains, ground-in soil, and wear-and-tear damage. Most people know that an effective, well-placed matting system will help to keep entryways clean and looking their best. The debate then becomes whether to rent or to buy.
There are many reasons that purchasing a matting system is a better option, the most important being cost savings. The average mat rental runs around $6 a week. Compare that with the purchase of that same mat at $40. That means in a little over 6
weeks you can justify the purchase of that mat. Partner that with the fact that the mats you purchase are typically of higher quality and more effective than rented mats and the benefits are obvious.
A matting system should extend at least 15 feet to 20 feet in total length, starting from the outside of the building and covering the breezeway and lobby and initial sections of the hallway. Used as a system, mats can help trap up to 85% of tracked-in soil. That means less time spent cleaning your floors and more time spent in other areas.
